TAPA Center to Conduct Net/Tele Conference on Strategies for Integrating Consumers into Jail Diversion Programs
The TAPA Center for Jail Diversion, a branch of the National GAINS Center, will conduct an online/telephone conference on strategies for effectively integrating consumers as staff and experts into jail diversion programs. The conference will be held on Wednesday, September 22, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm EST.
Participants will listen to the presentation via telephone on a toll-free connection. Participants will also have the opportunity to view a PowerPoint presentation online.
The Net/Tele Conference will cover a range of issues related to effective integration of consumers into jail diversion programs. LaVerne Miller of the Howie T. Harp Advocacy Center, Ann-Marie Louison of the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services (CASES), and a consumer (TBD) working within a jail diversion program will cover the following topics:
- Tapping the expertise of consumers in all aspects of jail diversion program planning and operation
- Recruiting, hiring, training, supporting, and integrating consumer staff into jail diversion programs
- Providing intensive peer specialist training for people with histories of mental illness and incarceration
- Reviewing successes and challenges, from the multiple perspectives, on integrating consumers as staff and experts
