Online survey of Mental Health Courts updated with new information
The national, searchable survey of mental health courts available at http://www.mentalhealthcourtsurvey.com has been updated with information about several new courts. The update includes information on some courts which are grantees of the Bureau of Justice Mental Health Courts Program, for which the Council of State Governments (coordinator of the Criminal Justice / Mental Health Consensus Project) provides technical assistance.
The survey is compiled by NAMI, the National GAINS Center for People with Co-Occurring Disorders in the Justice System, the TAPA Center for Jail Diversion, and the Council of State Governments (coordinator of the Criminal Justice / Mental Health Consensus Project).
The survey includes information on over seventy mental health court programs around the United States that are operating or in the planning stages. The web-based version includes a form for the administrators of additional such programs to submit information for inclusion in the survey. For more information about the survey, see the announcement of its publication as a PDF file.
Mental health courts are just one approach among many to improving the response to people with mental illness who come into contact with the criminal justice system. For examples of some of the many other types of programs active in jurisdictions across the country, please visit the Consensus Project's searchable Program Profiles.
