The Consensus Project, in conjunction with the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) will provide technical assistance to 13 sites in 12 states to improve collaboration between corrections (i.e., jail, prison, and community corrections) and mental health agencies.

Applications for this project were required to be submitted jointly by a corrections and mental health agency. More than 60 applications were submitted.

Through this initiative, expert consultants will help corrections and mental health partners develop creative strategies to respond to the growing involvement of people with mental illness in the corrections system. Of the thirteen sites selected, all will receive initial technical assistance, and several will be selected to receive additional intensive technical assistance.
