IN THE SPOTLIGHT
2005 CONFERENCE ON COURT-BASED INITIATIVES

Plans are currently underway for a 2005 conference on court-based initiatives for people with mental illnesses in the criminal justice system. This year's conference will be geared towards court-based programs, not just mental health courts; will be open to BJA grantee and non-grantee mental health courts alike; and will include information geared for both experienced and newer courts.

At this point, the specific date and location of the 2005 conference are pending BJA approval. CSG will post further details, including the tentative agenda and information on scholarship opportunities, on the website and e-newsletter as soon as this information is available. Read more...

Discussion Topic:
"How would you rate the level of support you receive from your county mental health agency?"

We would like to find out how much support local county (government) mental health agencies are providing mental health courts. In particular: How much FTE does your county mental health agency provide for the operation of the court itself? (Screening defendants/consulting with judicial officers, etc.) What kinds of clinical service does it provide? What quantity of clinical services does it provide? How is it funded? Is the service provided in any special way to the Court? Is it provided on a “fast track”?
