Technical Assistance

Since the release of its landmark Consensus Project Report in 2002, the Justice Center has provided on- and off-site technical assistance to states and localities working to ensure better public health and public safety outcomes for people with mental illnesses in contact with the criminal justice system. The Justice Center provides this technical assistance with the support of local, state, and federal agencies and private foundations, maximizing the impact of their investments in this issue.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance has selected the Justice Center to serve as technical assistance provider for the 2006, 2007, and 2008 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (JMHCP) grantees and certain jurisdictions that applied for, but did not receive, funding. The Other Projects section contains information on the Justice Center's major, ongoing technical assistance efforts on behalf of local, state, and federal agencies and private foundations. These include the Mental Health Court Learning Sites and the Chief Justices' Leadership Initiative.

The Tools section contains an array of interactive, online resources for policymakers, program planners, and others on topics they must tackle when designing collaborative, specialized responses to people with mental illnesses involved in the criminal justice system.
